I was listening to the radio a couple of weeks ago and they were talking about a really simple way of getting websites and associated adverts onto your mobile device. They’re called QR codes. I’d never heard of them. They’re a really simple way to put complicated URL’s into your mobile phone. Anyway, all you need to do is scan this with your phone, and you can access the website. It’s a bit like a barcode and it’s really clever. Here’s the QR code for my blog to show you what these thingy’s look like (or watch the demo:
(you can generate your own code here by the way).
Ha! Of course, when I actually went and did some research on it, it seems that they’ve been using these codes for quite sometime in Japan (they would wouldn’t they?). These codes have been out and available for AGES too according to Wikipedia.
So why am I mentioning this? Well in East London, there’s a billboard advertising something (but I can’t remember what). Well it’s got one of these codes on it. And that’s caught my eye and made me want to find out more about them.
We’ve done some research and even considered adopting this as a standard . Shame I can’t find a way to get my E650 to scan these yet. Obviously time for me to have an upgrade then…
