TS (he didn’t leave his real name on his email), contacted me through my blog to ask me why his signature files had become corrupt.
My signature file on new messages only works in rich text format, not html. It used to but one day decided to stop. Any thoughts on why this occurred?
Oh yes TS. I’ve had problems like this before, when my forwarded messages had a signature that looked awful! I was composing a new message and cutting and pasting the signature into the forwarded mail. Not an optimum solution at all. So I searched for the files that make up the signature so I could fix it.
The signature files live in C:\Documents and Settings\%your name%\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures
There are several files in here with extensions of .htm, .rtf and .txt which you can open in Word.
Rename or delete the .htm file and the next time you create an html message the signature file with the .htm message will be replaced. Another option is to copy the .rtf file and save it as an .htm file
No links pointing to any kb articles on this at all. I don’t think it’s an undocumented feature. I just can’t find anything useful that talks about the signature files. Maybe you can?…
